What are Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

First of all, it is certainly not like it is portrayed in the movies! Hypnosis is simply a process for inducing a trance, which is a very relaxed daydream-like state. A form of trance or hypnotic state is also something we all experience daily. For example, while driving you may have experienced the feeling of arriving somewhere and not remembering the journey much at all. Or perhaps you have been so engrossed in something such as reading a book or doing a task, that you notice nothing else, including time going by. These are everyday examples of being in a trance when your conscious mind is engaged elsewhere, enabling your subconscious mind to take over for a while.

While in hypnosis,  you will feel relaxed and may be unaware of your surroundings. In this relaxed state, great changes are possible as your subconscious mind is more able to accept suggestions and new ideas. Fears, phobias and habits exist in the subconscious and hypnotherapy can help the subconscious mind overcome them. Hypnosis is such a natural state, like a daydream, that clients feel both relaxed and refreshed after each session. And scientific research shows that hypnosis does have a real brain effect.

Hypnotherapy is a very powerful, practical way to get results with a wide range of issues – anything with a psychological, emotional or behavioural element, such as:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Fears, phobias and PTSD
  • Confidence
  • Weight issues
  • Bad habits
  • Negative thinking
  • Grief
  • Improving academic, sport & business performance
  • Pain control
  • Relationships
  • Panic attacks
  • Sleep problems

I also find it very satisfying to help children with problems such as bedwetting, shyness, nightmares & anxiety. Children are good hypnotic subjects, their active imaginations blending easily with the hypnotic state of mind. Please note that all treatments with children are carried out in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming was devised in the late 1960s and early 70s by Richard Bandler & John Grinder, who studied the work of supremely effective therapists (including the great hypnotherapist Milton Erickson) and identified the factors accounting for their success. They extended their research to successful people in other walks of life (such as in sales, politics, design, art, technology, community work & business management). The discoveries that they made about how language, thought patterns and perceptions of the world are mutually interdependent and affect behaviour, produced the valuable array of techniques known as NLP. It can be used to help you to:

  • Think more clearly & creatively.
  • Influence others
  • Realise more of your true potential
  • Overcome fears & phobias
  • Feel more confident & positive
  • Change limiting beliefs

What is Life Coaching?

Life Coaching is focused on clarifying, motivating, mobilising and supporting you in taking control of your life and creating the life you want. You may feel “stuck” and sense you want more than life is currently giving you, but not sure what or how. You may have concerns in one or more of the following areas:

  • Work, and work-life balance
  • Changing career or setting up a new business
  • Lack of motivation and clear goals
  • Confidence
  • Relationships
  • Health
  • Wealth

As a life coach, I help someone to work out where they want to be, when they want to get there and how they are going to get there. In doing so I challenge thinking and help them to face up to and overcome things they need to tackle. Life coaching is not a soft touch and is not to be entered into lightly. However, even though you may find it challenging at times, we will regularly review your progress and deal with whatever needs to be addressed for you to achieve your goals.
